For centuries, these racialized Black bodies have been misunderstood, mistreated and underappreciated. Our culture has been taught to be feared. Our bodies were told to be the antithesis of beauty. But what if these Black bodies (all shapes, sizes and forms) - with our markings, stains, piercings, scars and burns - were and are cultural and spiritual works of art? Let's honor OUR Black body art together.
The Black Body Art Conference is moving to a later date in 2024.
We'll announce the new conference date by December 2023.
Stay tuned and if so inclined, consider supporting our healing and storytelling efforts to make this gathering a huge success!
The OHI Black Body Art Conference seeks to showcase, honor and amplify storytelling, history, healing and art through the canvas of Black bodies. Our focal areas include branding, henna, piercing, scarification and tattoos. This conference invites professionals as well as lovers who have lived experiences and/or expertise in branding, henna, piercing, scarification and tattoo body modification. Most importantly, welcome the proposals (and attendance) of those who value being in community and fellowship with Black people (persons with heritages, races and ethnicities related to the African Diaspora) who adorn body art. Our Healing Ink (OHI) invites you to submit a proposal for our Inaugural Black Body Art Conference to be held in 2024.
Date and venue location TBA.
